We’re excited about the Edinburgh Fringe, but it’s clear it needs to change. A lot of people have a lot of ideas, but nothing has really happened yet. So we decided to ask the comedians themselves: in your fantasy, what would the Fringe look like? It might have been a mistake.

Larry Owens imagines a world where Julie Garland, Elaine Stritch and Barbra Streisand visit Edinburgh and watch his show. This transcript was made from a secret recording made of them hanging out in the pub afterwards.

Owens: Ladies, thank you so much for staying! I couldn’t believe it when they told me you were here at the festival. OMG, at my show. Cheers!

Garland: You were fantastic darling. Takes me back to singing with Liza at The Palladium…

Stritch: (to Larry) Who do you think you are? Ivo van Hove? You’re from Baltimore, kid.

Streisand: Sweetheart, as a director. I want to commend your eye. The fusion of comedy, music, and plot reminded me of a young me.

Stritch: Barbra, a well made vase reminds you of ‘a young you’.

Owens: I’m so grateful that the themes of the show were able to resonate with you all – considering how polarizing we may seem as a group on paper.

Garland: You’ve seen yourself in our work, of course we can see ourselves in yours dear.

Owens: Oh wow, Miss Garland, that’s so kind. I’m completely chuffed.

Streisand: I loved that your stand-up show, though couched inside of the one hour comedy structure, mirrors the limitlessness of your identities. It goes so many places. But there’s a unity to the craftsmanship and approach that makes it make sense.

Stritch: “Having just a vision's no solution, Everything depends on execution.”

Owens: Elaine…Barbra…Judy…I never thought I’d say this but: goodnight.
